HISTORY OF SAMARA LAWYER
from 1864 to the present day
30.05.2023
The Chamber of Advocates of the Samara Region has prepared an exclusive printed edition, “The History of the Samara Bar Association”.
The book was published in a print run of 2,000 copies.
The 280-page collection includes unique historical materials, archival documents and photographs, biographical information about human rights defenders of the Samara province and advocacy from 1864 to 2023.
The history of the Samara bar association was painstakingly collected over two years by historians G.V. Aleksushin, Z.M. Kobozeva, employees of the Chamber of Advocates of the Samara Region, journalists, veterans of the bar association, and successors of advocacy dynasties. Materials from the Central State Archive of the Samara Region, the Samara Regional Archive of Social and Political History, the Samara Regional Bar Association, and family archives of PASO members were studied and used.
Based on a wide range of archival sources, the publication reveals the specifics of advocacy in different historical periods, recreates portraits of famous Samara and Russian lawyers. Particular attention is paid to the transformation of the bar during difficult moments in Russian history, during periods of wars, revolutions, socialist construction, perestroika and the revival of Russian statehood.
The third chapter of the book is devoted to the modern history of the corporation, dating back to the adoption of the Federal Law of May 31, 2002 "On Advocacy and the Bar in the Russian Federation".
The Chamber of Advocates of the Samara Region believes that the glorious history of the Samara bar does not end here.
"One and a half centuries separate today's lawyers from the defenders of the 19th century. During this time, global changes have occurred in time and space: millennia, generations, political regimes, legislation, economic realities - the country and the whole world have become different.
But the most amazing thing is that the legal community has managed to preserve and carry through all the twists and turns of time not only the glorious names of their colleagues from the pre-revolutionary, 20s, 30s, war and post-war times, the Soviet period, but also their legacy: great love for the profession, high moral qualities, adherence to the principles of honesty, integrity in serving people, defending their legal rights, and observing justice.
The best traditions of the Samara Bar Association continue!"
As reported at the Twenty-third annual conference of lawyers of the Samara Region
PASO President T.D. Butovchenko, not all of the collected materials were included in the printed version. It is planned to release a series of podcasts about the history, traditions, principles of the Bar Association, etc., with the participation of lawyers of different generations.
