A working meeting was held between Elena Vladimirovna Lapushkina, Human Rights Commissioner for the Samara Region, and Tatyana Dmitrievna Butovchenko, President of the Chamber of Advocates of the Samara Region. The key event of the meeting was the signing of a Cooperation Agreement between the PASO and the Human Rights Commissioner.
During the meeting, the parties discussed in detail the Chamber of Advocates' guarantee of citizens' constitutional rights to legal assistance. Particular attention was paid to organizing legal assistance and protecting the rights and legitimate interests of SVO participants and their family members.
Emphasis was placed on current issues related to the provision of qualified legal assistance, including pro bono assistance.
E.V. Lapushkina familiarized herself with the work of the Subsidized Legal Aid Center, which processes 60,000 requests from investigative bodies annually. The timely participation of lawyers in legal proceedings depends on its efficient operation. Prospects for joint activities were also discussed, including the participation of representatives of the legal community in the work of the Public and Expert Councils under the Human Rights Commissioner of the Samara Region, as well as in the commissions established under these councils. The issue of lawyers' participation in personal meetings with citizens and other events aimed at promoting the exercise of constitutional rights and freedoms for residents of the region was also raised.
Both parties expressed confidence that constructive interaction between public human rights defenders and lawyers will continue and will become an important factor in ensuring respect for citizens' rights in the Samara Region.
