Oratory competition among students of the School of Young Lawyers

On May 16, the Chamber of Advocates of the Samara Region held a public speaking competition among the students of the Young Advocate School and its Togliatti branch. The theme of the competition was “Limits of what is permitted and what is not permitted in the activities of an advocate” - it allowed the interns to fully immerse themselves in the norms of professional ethics and the problems of their implementation in practice. At the beginning of the event, the participants were greeted by the President of the PASO T.D. Butovchenko. She noted the importance of the competition as an opportunity to improve the skills of public speaking, substantiation of one’s position and persuasion, which are necessary for every advocate. The level of speeches, depth of arguments and knowledge of the participants of the competition were assessed by the head of the Young Advocate School T.D. Ivanova and the head of the branch of the School in Togliatti V.I. Yankina. Almost all the speakers demonstrated knowledge of not only the norms of the CPEA, but also the practical problems that advocates face in their activities. Thus, questions were raised about the inadmissibility of a lawyer's participation in preparing a complaint against a colleague, the lack of a lawyer's right to "get up and leave" the process; they discussed where the line is between a lawyer's conscientious work and abuse of rights when filing multiple similar or pointless motions, between active defense and disrespect for the court, and other questions that experienced lawyers do not always successfully find answers to. It was clear from each speech that the interns enter the profession with a sincere desire to work professionally and conscientiously. Summing up the results of the competition, the jury members wished them not to lose this intention after acquiring the status of a lawyer and to carry it through their entire professional life.
